International Award Winning Female Country Vocalist and Songwriter 2012 and New England Country Music Female Vocalist, Entertainer and Songwriter of the Year 2011, Shannon Selig has “full, powerful vocals that captivate audiences”. Her natural flair for country music no doubt comes from growing up on farms and in the back woods of Maine and Nova Scotia.
Shannon’s is currently recording her second album of original songs in Nashville, TN and it is set to release in June of this year. The first single “Break Me” is airing on radio and the music video has been released online.
Shannon is a seasoned performer used to the challenges of a packed schedule. In a recent Maine competition hosted by WCSH6 News Shannon posted a video singing “Danny Boy”, over 47,000 votes were cast and Shannon was named Maine’s “The Voice”. She was asked to perform live on WCSH6 Morning Report, 207 News and FOX 23 Good Day Maine all within a few days before flying to LA to compete. Her accomplishments in the online competition and New England Country Awards were recognized in interviews with local newspapers in Maine.
Even from a young age Shannon showed extreme talent and drive. After recording and co-producing her debut album at the age of 14 alongside Christian singer-songwriter Ken Medema, she was flown to Las Vegas, NV to perform the Keller Williams Kares theme song at Manadlay Bay Resort in front of a crowd of over 7000.
At the age of 15 Shannon took the stage at Merrill Auditorium with the Portland Symphony Orchestra. Singing eighteen straight shows to sold out crowds of 1800 with her counterpart, award winning recording artist and actress Liz Callaway, Shannon delivered each performance flawlessly. She was asked back to Merrill Auditorium only a few months later to perform for the Good Shepherd Food Bank fundraiser, Voices of Hope, alongside Maine singer-songwriter Don Campbell.
Shannon was accepted into McGill University for Vocal Performance in the fall of 2007 where she began to study under Therese Sevadjian, a French mezzo-soprano from Montreal. After two years of classical study Shannon transferred to Berklee College of Music to focus on music business and songwriting.
Shannon believes in giving back to her community through performing at fundraisers throughout the Northeast. She appears annually at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk in Montreal, which draws a crowd of over 2,000. On their 5th anniversary Shannon wrote and recorded a single for the Light the Night Walk titled “Walk With Me” which is sold across Canada and the US to raise funds and awareness for the cause.
The American Cancer Society in Gardner, MA, has asked Shannon back in June of 2012 to perform once again for their annual Relay for Life. Shannon frequently performs the Canadian National Anthem at Fenway Park and was selected to perform the opening ceremonies for NASCAR at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway last September.
Driven beyond belief Shannon is sure to accomplish great things in the near future. Look out for her album in June and a tour of the Southern United States soon after.
